The other day we were taking Delaney to her dance recital and all of a sudden she says "When I grow up I'm not going to learn how to drive. My husband can drive me everywhere." I looked over at Mom and started to laugh! The funny thing is, she already knows who her husband is going to be and how many children they are going to have. She's had a little crush on Tyler since the beginning of school. She told me that she'd found her husband in swimming class. I guess he had a little trouble deciding if he was going to marry her or Sasha, but he decided on her (I have the impression that he decided this while Sasha was away - obviously a pragmatic fellow). They are going to have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. And Delaney is not going to drive.
I guess you have to respect her right to make decisions for herself. My grandmother's generation stayed home, my mom's might work after the kids were all in school and could take care of themselves, mine feels guilty if they work or stay home and are definitely overinvolved in our children's lives, and Delaney seems to feel that she gets to call the shots. Good for her! I hope she sticks with it (although I don't know if I'd call exacatly those shots).
Connor had his first basketball game today and he was really good. He tells me that he is the best on his team. He also got fired from his violin lessons. I'm not sure exactly what happened there and have to talk to his teacher, but I have a feeling that they are a lot alike. Funny, because although Connor hasn't been too interested in the violin the last little while, he definitely likes his teacher. I'm thinking maybe we should try Suzuki next year...
Aidan is playing basketball again and enjoying it. Mr. Easy-going as usual. He really badly wanted a new Pokemon Emerald game and didn't have enough money saved for it. Connor offered to lend him the money and both were happy - Aidan because he got the game and Connor because it makes him feel good to be generous. Now I hope that Aidan will return the favor someday because I don't think being generous makes him feel as good as having things... they are very different children! We will have to wait and see, but if Aidan is only willing to borrow and not lend, I don't think Connor's generosity will continue either.
May is sort of a crazy month. Delaney is starting soccer tomorrow so I will let you know how that goes. I'm having trouble picturing my dancing girl playing a competitive sport, but we'll see!
